JAKARTA - The Embassy of the United States (U.S.) in Jakarta will hold a technology conference "TechCamp Jakarta" pada19-May 20, 2001 to come in high-tech U.S. cultural center @ america.
This event will be attended by more than 40 civil society groups active in the field of disaster management and climate change, and 12 companies from Indonesia and foreign technologies, including Alcatel-Lucent, Novartis, Intel, Google, Microsoft, Cisco, Yahoo Indonesia, Telkomsel , Indosat, and others.
This activity is one part of the Civil Society 2.0 initiative, launched by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and aimed at moving the technology community to help civil society organizations around the world.
TechCamp expected to provide skills, resources and support to improve their digital capacity. Tech Camp Jakarta is the second time this has ever undertaken by the U.S. State Department. Last year, the first TechCamp held in Santiago, Chile. While further TechCamp been scheduled to be held in Lithuania and Moldova. In 2009, Clinton introduced the initiative and stressed the importance of Civil Society 2.0. In a conference in Marrakesh, Morocco, Clinton said, "We seek to support the efforts of civil society around the world because we believe that encourage civil society communities in the world becomes more stable and prosperous."
"It also encourages economic development that provides great benefit to the people. It is also encouraging political institutions to become more nimble and responsive in serving the people. Therefore the United States has launched an initiative that we call the Civil Society 2.0. This initiative, organized this will provide new technologies for civil society. We will also send experts in digital technology and communications to help develop their capacity, "he added.
In TechCamp in Jakarta for two days later, civil society organizations will share with them and their fellow technologists on the latest challenges they face and brainstorm ideas about how technology can play a role in answering these challenges.
Activities TechCamp be unique because after the event ends and all challenges have been identified, local civil society groups will link itself to a global network consisting of technologists, sponsors, and volunteers who are interested in digital helped found and run the solution.
In addition, TechCamp also will assist efforts for technological literacy of civil society by presenting the local and regional technology experts to educate, train, and work with them.
